It will be a simple lunch in conjunction with the Methodist congregation at Stamford Bridge, held in the Methodist Chapel Schoolroom. STAMFORD BRIDGE NEWS

HARRY WARD

Sylvia Ward and family would like to thank all those who attended Harry’s funeral, sent messages of condolence and donated money instead of flowers. The amount raised was £860 which is going into the church improvement fund.

FLOWERS FOR EASTER

Now is the time that we ask anyone who would like to donate money for flowers to decorate the church during the Easter period to put their money in the flower box at the back of the church. Alternatively give it to a churchwarden or sidesman making it clear that the money is for flowers. Thank you.

APCM ANNUAL REPORTS

Please could all leaders of Church groups who usually submit a report for the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (Wednesday 9th April) let the secretary, Cathy Mathieson, have a copy no later than Friday 7th March. Due to personal circumstances material received after this date will not be included as the secretary will not be in Yorkshire between 19th March and 12th April. Many thanks to the Mothers’ Union who have already handed in their report.

BATTERIES DEFINITELY INCLUDED

Graham Morris

A ten mile round trip by car to the recycling depot to drop off a few household batteries is rather counter productive from an environmental view point. How do you recycle yours? I did some checking on the internet and if you have a massive social conscience you are probably paying to post them to a specialist abroad, or perhaps you are waiting for the EU to get its legislation right to force battery manufacturers to introduce recycling operations? Whatever you do, here is another option. At the back of the church for the next two weeksbeplastic tub for you to place in all those small batteries from torches, games, lights, door bells and so on. They will then be recycled. Please let us have your used batteries. Thank you.

BITS & BOBS

WHAT PSALM 23 IS REALLY ABOUT

The Lord is my Shepherd

--THAT'S RELATIONSHIP!

I shall not want

---THAT'S SUPPLY!

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures ---THAT'S REST!

He leadeth me beside still waters

-- THAT'S REFRESHMENT!

He restoreth my soul

-- THAT'S HEALING!

He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness

--- THAT'S GUIDANCE!

For his name sake

--- THAT'S PURPOSE!

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death -

- THAT'S TESTING!

I will fear no evil

-- THAT'S PROTECTION!

For thou art with me

--- THAT'S FAITHFULNESS!

Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me

--- THAT'S DISCIPLINE!

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies

--- THAT'S HOPE!

Thou anointest my head with oil

--- THAT'S CONSECRATION!

My cup runneth over

--- THAT'S ABUNDANCE!

POEM FOR THE MONTH

THE VALLEY

There is such beauty in the dappled valley

As hurt the sight, the heart stabbed to tears.

The gathered beautifulness of all the years

Hovered thereover, it seemed, eternally

Set for man’s joy. Town, tower, trees, river

Under a sky royal-azure Heaven for ever

Up-piled with towering mountains of March cloud.

A Herald-day of Spring more wonderful

Than Her true own. Trumpets cried aloud

In sky, earth, blood. No beast, no clod so dull

But the strength felt of the day. Power of the giver

Was glad for being, lowly at once, and proud.

Kyrie Eleison, and Gloria

Credo, Jubilate, Magnificat:

The whole world gathered strength to praise the day.

Ivor Gurney
