CATTON NEWS

BE PHOTOGRAPHED AT THE BEAUTIFUL ALL SAINTS CHURCH, LOW CATTON

In a very kind gesture to help church finances, the professional photographer, James Rossdale, has arranged to be at All Saints for the whole of the day on Saturday 31st May. He will photograph your family, new born baby, Golden Wedding group, your dog, horse; it’s your choice entirely. The photographs can be taken either outside the church or inside (except for the horse!!) and will cost only £10.00 for an 8 x 6 print, which you will realise is a very ‘good offer’. All profits are to be kindly donated to church funds.

The day will be organised on an appointment basis, beginning at 10.00 am and finishing at 4.00 pm (roughly, depending upon demand). Do give James and Pamela and all of us at All Saints your support by contacting Pat on 01759 371278 or John on 01759 373424 to arrange your time.

BITS & BOBS

DEAR GOD

I want to thank you for what you have already done in my life.

I am not going to wait until things in my life look better -

I am not going to wait until people say they are sorry –

I am not going to wait until the pain in my body disappears-

I am not going to wait until my financial situation improves-

I am not going to wait until I get the job-

I am not going to wait until the journey gets easier -

I am not going to wait until I understand every experience in my life that has caused me pain or grief;

I am thanking you right now.

I am thanking you because I am alive.

I am thanking you because I made it through the day's difficulties.

I am thanking you because I have walked around the obstacles.

I am thanking you because I have the ability and the opportunity to do more and do better.

Most of all, I'm thanking you, God...because you haven't given up on me.

CHURCH OF ENGLAND & PREMIER CHRISTIAN RADIO PRODUCE JOINT PODCAST

The Church of England and Premier Christian Radio have joined forces to feature people who are part of today's Church of England via a series of monthly podcasts. In the 'People and Places' series, journalist Howard Dobson travels to meet a variety of Church of England people across the country, and series presenter Cindy Kent, from Premier Christian Radio, contributes topical interviews recorded at Church House in London and Premier. Among the interviewees are priests, people training to be priests, ordained pioneer ministers, project coordinators and volunteers. They were recorded everywhere from the Greenbelt Festival to a 'clean' comedy club in Birmingham, a coffee shop in Harrow (a youth pastor's 'second office') to Westminster Cathedral, Kensington Gardens to the Derbyshire Dales and many other locations. The 15-minute podcasts are available online at www.cofe.anglican.org/podcast and www.premierradio.org.uk/ondemand.aspx and via iTunes.

QUOTES WITH EASTER IN MIND

The face of Jesus must be very near our own when the thorns from his crown of suffering are pressing our brow and hurting us. Anon

Of all the things that will surprise us in the Resurrection morning, this I believe, will surprise us most: that we did not love Christ more before we died. J C Ryle

By death I shall escape from death.

James Montgomery

The cross is the resting place for sin, the tomb for self and the throne for our fears. Harold St John

Christianity is a religion about a cross.

Leon Morris

The cross is the centre of the world’s history. The incarnation of Christ and the crucifixion of our Lord are the pivot round which all the events of the ages revolve.

Alexander MacLaren

The crosses we bear are not supposed to be heavy enough to crush us, ...but they are heavy enough to bend our knees.

God grades us on the cross, not the curve.

Let him lead you from the garden of your suffering. . .......... ..............Daphne Kitching

HAVE YOU WALKED IN THE GARDEN?

(Mark 14:33-34,42 and John 20:16)

Have you walked in the garden of desolation,
Do you know what it's like to fall down?
Have you trusted and shared and been rejected,
Has the broken heart within you turned to stone?
Have you known the pain of misinterpretation,
Of betrayal by the ones you knew as friends?
Have you pleaded that your nightmare might be lifted,

Just to waken to a night that never ends?
Have you walked in the garden of desolation?

Jesus walked in your garden.

Let him lead you from the garden of your suffering,
Let him show you to the place beyond the night.
He has overcome the darkness by his death upon the cross,
He has won for you his glorious Easter light.
There is life and joy within his resurrection,
There is freedom and forgiveness for the past,
Let him lead you in the garden of his triumph
As he calls your name and offers peace at last.
