The Big Brew 2008 is being held during Fairtrade fortnight this year (25th February – 9th March). It is a great way to promote Fairtrade products in our church and community. Our Big Brew event this year will be a Local produce/Fairtrade lunch after the morning services on Sunday 9th March, from about 12.00 noon. It will be a simple lunch in conjunction with the Methodist congregation at Stamford Bridge, held in the Methodist Chapel Schoolroom. We plan to serve locally produced bread, cheese, ham, and Fairtrade jam, fruit and cakes and we hope to have a Fairtrade stall. If you would like to come then please add your name to the sheet at the back of church. If you require any further details please contact Wendy Macfarlane (373825)

The woman was made of a rib out of the side of Adam; not made out of his head to rule over him, nor out of his feet to be trampled on by him; but out of his side to be equal to him, under his arm to be protected, and near his heart to be loved. Matthew Henry WHAT IS TRUE LOVE? Here are the answers that a group of four to eight year olds gave…. "When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love." Fred—age 7 "When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth." Billy - age 4

RULES OF WRITING THAT
VALENTINE CARD
If you want to impress your loved one, remember the following:
- Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.
- Also, always avoid annoying alliteration.
- And don't start a sentence with a conjunction.
- Avoid clichés like the plague. (They're old hat.)
- Employ the vernacular.
- Eschew ampersands & abbreviations, etc.
- Parenthetical remarks (however relevant) are (usually) unnecessary.
- It is wrong to ever split an infinitive.
- Contractions aren't necessary and shouldn't be used.
- Foreign words and phrases are not apropos.
- You should never generalize.
- Do not use more words than necessary. It's highly superfluous.
- Also too, never, ever use repetitive redundancies.
- Be more or less specific.
- Understatement is always the absolute best way to put forth earth-shaking ideas.
- One-word sentences? Eliminate.
- Analogies in writing are like feathers on a snake.
- The passive voice is to be avoided.
- Even if a mixed metaphor sings, it should be derailed.
- Who needs rhetorical questions?
- Exaggeration is a billion times worse than understatement.
- Eliminate commas, that are, not necessary.
- Never use a big word when a diminutive one would suffice.
- Puns are for children, not groan readers.
Proofread carefully to see if you left any words out of your
LOVE IN A BAG
I asked my nephew whether he bought his wife anything for Valentine's Day. "Yes", he said, "I bought her a belt and a bag."
"That was very nice of you", I replied, "I hope she appreciated the thought." He said, "So do I, and hopefully the vacuum cleaner will work better now."

Civilised man is psychologically sick, and the more cultured and civilised he becomes, the more sick he will be, for modern man is seeking to feel at home in the world without any reference to God. - Akbar Abdul-Haqq
The true holy water is not that which the pope sprinkles, but is distilled from the penitent eye. - Thomas Watson
To get to heaven, turn right and keep going straight. - Anon
Regret is an appalling waste of energy; you can't build on it; it's only good for wallowing in. - Katherine Mansfield.
A WORD IN YOUR EAR—"listen to Bible studies any time, any place"
’A Word in Time’, the online Bible study launched on the Methodist Church website late last year, has been hugely successful. Now the service has been developed for audio, making access to a daily Bible study easier than ever. An audio file of each day's Bible study and a larger file with a week of studies can easily be downloaded onto a computer or mph3 player, so that users can listen at a time convenient to them. Whether you're at the gym, relaxing in the bath, doing your weekly shop or on a daily commute to work, you can listen in. ’A Word in Time’ features a daily Bible reading, background to the text, reflections with questions to ponder, and can be found at:- http://www.methodist.org.uk/bible
